A Brief Introduction for Pure Aluminum
- Mar 07, 2017 -

Aluminum Characteristics: Aluminum is a relatively soft, durable, lightweight, ductile and malleable metal with appearance ranging from silvery to dull gray, depending on the surface roughness. Tensile strength, annealed - 6800 psi, cold-rolled - 16,000 psi. Aluminum qualifies as both a light metal and a heavy metal, according to their respective definitions. It is nonmagnetic and does not easily ignite.

Hazard: Fine powder forms flammable and explosive mixtures in air. Tolerance, 10 mg/m3 of air; soluble salts, 2 mg/m3 of air. Nontoxic and noncombustible except in powder forms.

Aluminum is a good thermal and electrical conductor, having 59% the conductivity of copper, both thermal and electrical, while having only 30% of copper's density making it useful for electrical transmission because of its light weight. Pure aluminum is soft and lacks strength, but alloyed with small amounts of copper, magnesium, silicon, manganese, or other elements impart a variety of useful properties.

Aluminum is one of the most widely used elements on Earth for transportation (cars, aircraft, spacecraft, trains, marine), packaging, construction, household, lighting systems, electronics and even used in paint in a powdered form. Aluminum, evaporated in a vacuum, forms a highly reflective coating for both visible light and radiant heat. These coatings soon form a thin layer of the protective oxide and do not deteriorate as do silver coatings. They are used to coat telescope mirrors and to make decorative paper, packages, and toys.

High purity aluminum is used to make certain kinds of jets, such as Boeing’s F-18 and Lockheed Martin’s F-35, as well as armored vehicles.A1050/1060/1070/1100/1350 plain aluminum coil  is used maily for cast resin tansformer winding.Coated 1000 series aluminum coil is widely  used for building materials.

Only a few smelters in the world produce pure aluminum, and those are located mostly in Russia, the Middle East, and China.
